Electrostatic trapping of metastable NH molecules
We report on the Stark deceleration and electrostatic trapping of NH (a ∆) radicals. In the trap, the molecules are excited on the spin-forbidden A Π ← a ∆ transition and detected via their subsequent fluorescence to the X Σ ground state. The 1/e trapping time is 1.4 ± 0.1 s, from which a lower limit of 2.7 s for the radiative lifetime of the a ∆, v = 0, J = 2 state is deduced. The spectral pro...
متن کاملElectrostatic Trapping of Ultracold Polar Molecules
This thesis describes the progress made in the production, spectroscopic characterization, and confinement of ultracold, polar NaCs molecules. A two-species magneto-optical trap (MOT) for the simultaneous cooling and trapping of sodium and cesium atoms is utilized for the creation of ultracold NaCs molecules via photoassociation. The molecules are detected via resonance-enhanced multi-photon io...
متن کاملMagnetic Trapping of NH Molecules with 20 s Lifetimes
Buffer gas cooling is used to trap NH molecules with 1/e lifetimes exceeding 20 s. Helium vapor generated by laser desorption of a helium film is employed to thermalize 10 molecules at a temperature of 500 mK in a 3.9 T magnetic trap. Long molecule trapping times are attained through rapid pumpout of residual buffer gas. Molecules experience a helium background gas density below 1× 10 cm−3. PAC...
متن کاملMagnetic Trapping and Zeeman Relaxation of NH
NH radicals are magnetically trapped and their Zeeman relaxation and energy transport collision cross sections with helium are measured. Continuous buffer-gas loading of the trap is direct from a roomtemperature molecular beam. The Zeeman relaxation (inelastic) cross section of magnetically trapped electronic, vibrational, and rotational ground state NH molecules in collisions with 3He is measu...
متن کاملKinetic Trapping of Metastable Amino Acid Polymorphs
Second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy measurements indicate that inkjet-printed racemic solutions of amino acids can produce nanocrystals trapped in metastable polymorph forms upon rapid solvent evaporation. Polymorphism impacts the composition, distribution, and physico-kinetic properties of organic solids, with energetic arguments favoring the most stable polymorph. In this study, unfav...
